Exploring the World of Arguments

Dr. David J. Hellfand, a Ph.D. scholar, who is a Professor of Astronomy at the University of Massachusetts - Columbia, is known as a Theoretical Physicist.  Dr. Hellfand has done extensive research in the field of Astro Physics.  Dr. Hellfand is a Laureate Scholar.   Dr. Hellfand is a secular scholar.

Dr. Hellfand has won the Presidential Teaching Award.  Dr. Hellfand is an Instructor on The Teaching Company and has completed a series of twenty seven lectures in which he describes a certain scientific theory.  This theory is only one tiny part of these lectures.

This certain theory theorizes that there is another world beyond what we can see.  In this little known world visible only in shadows  or vague dots with the most powerful telescopes, beings  travel faster than the speed of light, faster than 186,000 miles per second.  When a being travels faster than the speed of light the incident happens before the person is born.

The example used by Dr. Hellfand is this one.  A child throws a baseball and breaks a window.  This window shattered and broke before the child is born.  Another example by Dr. Hellfand is this one.  Twins were separated.  One stayed on earth.  The other one traveled faster than the speed of light into another galaxy.  When that one returned to earth, his twin had been dead 800 years.

According to Dr. Hellfand, earth is bound by; and hence, limited by time.  To travel at speeds faster than the speed of light one enters into a time where things have already happened years before the person is born.  Time as we know time, in that world, does not exist in that world, according to Dr. Hellfand.

Now, compare (means tell me the likenesses) and contrast  (differences in) this secular theory and your Bible.
One paragraph each.  Total paragraphs: 2.    5- 7 Sentences per paragraph.
Again, for this blog only, do NOT answer the questions on the syllabus.

  1. According to Dr. Hellfand, there is a world that we cannot see and beings coming and going with no regard to time, as we know it. According to the Bible, we were created in the image of God making us spirit beings. There is a spirit realm or world, if you may, which we cannot see, but things are going on and being accomplished with out regard to time. Time was so fast in this theory that events concerning your life occurred before you were born. In Jeremiah 1:5 God said, “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart….” We were known and had a purpose before we were ever conceived.

Dr Hellfand’s world is unknown because to the human eye it is not visible. God in Genesis spoke our world into existence and we see it and benefit from it every day. In his theory, time does not exist, as we know time. In our world, we govern our lives by a clock, or hours in a day or certain days of the week. Time is a type of boundary, which we need in our lives. According to Ecclesiastes 3:1, there is a time appointed for everything, and a time for every affair under the heavens.”

  2. When I read Dr. Helfand's theory, I think of scriptures from old testament that reference our Savior Jesus Christ. Psalm 22, clearly references Jesus experience on the cross, which had not yet occurred. Psalm 34:20 states that "He guards all of his bones, not one of them is broken". This absolutely lines up with Dr. Helfand's theory when a being travels faster than the speed of light, the incident happens before the person is born.

God already knew the world was going to need a Savior. The difference in Dr. Helfand's theory is that God has already spoken and presented salvation. He only had to do that one time. If Jesus were not enough, scripture may have referred to another "being" traveling so to speak for our benefit.

God already has our life planned for us, as outlined in Jeremiah. We have the choice to walk in it and walk out the life He has already "spoken" over us. However, our decisions can change our course because He has given us all a free will. I'm not sure if or how this discredits the secular theory.

  3. Dr.Hellfand talks about another world we cant see, could it be the spirit realm that he may be confusing it with. I believe that things happen in the spirit realm like when we pray for other nations. were not traveling in time but we are praying for what is happening and going on in those nations. We cant go to the future but as christians we can pray for the plan and our futures and know what god wants us to do.

Dr. David Hellfand is a accomplished instructor with a theory that man understands. but we have to remember he is a secular scholar. He doesnt know the truth, In John 14:6 Jesus said "I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the father except through me. This certain theory theorizes that there is another world beyond what we can see. I would tell Dr. Hellfand i would have to see it to believe it. Maybe in a fiction movie those things could happen.

  4. We can travel in the future before we get there. It is in the spiritual realm that we can do this. By praying in the spirit, you are praying out our future. This causes the pathway to be smooth, straight, and provision before you arrive to that time of the future. When Jesus died on the cross over 2000 years ago, we died with Him over 2000 years ago. This is difficult for our human minds to wrap around, but in the spiritual realm, this is possible.

Time is only for us humans. It is for boundaries, recordings, and measuring. With God, there is no time. God is eternal. He is omnipresent; meaning He is present in all places at all times-past, future, and present.

  5. 1. Compare the likenesses
I agree with Dr. Hellfand’s theory, “... there is a world beyond what we can see.” According to Genesis 1, God spoke words and create the world. We have no record that God ever said stop! I know that God was, is and always will be. Therefore, I believe God’s words are still going forward creating light, stars, planets and worlds beyond what we can imagine. Scientists continue to find things which are new to them but have existed for eons of time. I am absolutely certain there is more beyond the world and realm we live in.

    2. Contrast the differences
I disagree with Dr. Hellfand’s theory, “...that a being can travel faster than the speed of light and be in the time before the person was born.” In Genesis 1-3, we see God create Adam and Eve and developed relationships with them. Before long, Satan approached them and caused them to think that they could make it on their own, without God. After breaking their relationship with God, our world was subject to limitations and natural laws which cause sin, sickness, disease and death. Sin put mankind in a box. People were living for almost 1,000 years before God finally limited our years on earth. I believe God would love to show us the rest of His creations but because of limits, we cannot do it at this time. But, I have no doubt, when we join God in heaven, because we are made like Him, He will thoroughly enjoying taking all over the past, way into the future and visit all the wonderful places He has continued to create in between. After all, have you ever known a true artist who stops creating?

  6. This story is a little similar to what the Bible says. According to the Bible, we know that there is another world beyond what we can see. We call it the spiritual realm. The Bible tells us that there are spiritual beings in this realm. I believe that the spiritual beings can travel at any speed weather fast or slow. We also know that there’s no time in the spiritual realm, only in this physical realm.

The contrast, I don’t think is as much as the likeness. I don’t really understand all that the Dr. is saying here, like how it is visible only in shadows or vague dots? Some people have seen these “beings” and I have never heard of these people speak of seeing only in shadows or dots. From what I have heard, reading some of Brother Hagin’s books these beings are very large, and some are small. The part about the twins I don’t understand. I don’t believe humans can travel at the speed of light, or maybe they can, in the spirit.

  7. Jarian Said.. Yes there is a spiritual world. The Bible tells us that. The Bible also let us know angels and demons exist in that world. And that the spiritual world is real.Dr.Hellfands theory is 1/2 and 1/2.It does not line up all the with Bible.

  8. The likenesses are: Jeremiah 1:5, where God is talking to Jeremiah telling him, He knew him before He formed him in his mother's womb. Another example is John 20:26, when Jesus appeared to the disciples in the midst of them and Jesus had walked thru the wall because the door was locked. The Bible states in 2Peter 3:8, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, a thousand years as one day. In Luke 24:15 Jesus appears to a couple disciples as they are walking to Emmaus, after He had been crucified. Another example is 1 peter 2;24, by his Stripes I were healed. I was healed 2000 years ago and I am healed today.

The differences are: our Bible states that we call those things that are not as though they are and they manifest in the physical. We also have a God that can re-deem time for us. The seculare world does not. Spiritual things have no distance in time, prayer is timeless, the secular world has none.

A Theory That Looks Like Salvation
In Comparison to Dr. Hellfand’s example on the speed of light with the illustrations of the Bible, I am reminded of the story of Adam and Eve. In the beginning, God had created a good system of life, joy, and peace for man to live on this earth without sin, sickness, and disease. Satan was outside of that system looking in through the window. Adam had thru the ball out of the window by his disobedience to God, by not maintaining authority. By doing that, he had broken and shattered the window to the point that is was impossible to fix. Satan was looking throw that window and was able to enter in to the wonderful system that God had created for Man to enjoy him. Now, when Satan entered in to man’s world, sin, death and sickness passed on to everyone that was to be born into God’s system for man. Romans 5:12 says, wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned. This window is broken and no one in the system of God knows how to repair it, and not man knows the day of the hour the Savior shall return to reunite us with the father. 2 Peter 3:8 tells us, that one day with the Lord is as a thousand years and a thousand years as one day”.
The other illustration that Dr. Hellfand made referenced to his theory theorizes, “twins were separated”. Where one stayed on earth and the other traveled to another galaxy. I am reminded of what the Bible teaches in Genesis 1:26, man was created in the image of God. In 1 John 17, as he is, so are we in this world. What that tells me is that Adam and mankind look likes Jesus. In 1 Corinthians 15:45 that, the first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a quickening spirit. The first Adam was from the earth, the last Adam was form heaven. Ephesians 2:1 says when “you were dead through your wrongdoing and sins. Dr. Hellfand’s theory also contrasts the message of salvation that God provided for his creation over two thousand years ago, and that this issue is settled for all eternity we only needed one Savior and that Savior is Jesus Christ.

I found Dr. David Helfand theory interesting. The Bible talk about a spirit world. A place were beings travel faster than the speed of light. God says, He is the begining And the end. God knew me before I was and He know my future.

We can know this world, we have the Bible and the spirit of God on the inside of us. There are stories in the Bible where God allow people to see in this world. We, as God people, can operate in this spirit world with our words. Are words reach farther then we realize. I don't know if this is what Dr.Helfand is talking about , but is interesting when you compare it to the word if God.
